What is Preventive in dentistry?
Preventive dentistry is the practice of caring for your teeth to keep them healthy. This helps to avoid cavities, gum disease, enamel wear, and more.

What Does Preventive Dentistry Do?
Preventive dentistry prevents people from developing dental problems later on. If you use proper dental care, you can avoid or lessen the effects of these:

  • Cavities
  • Gingivitis
  • Enamel loss
  • Periodontitis

What is Fissure Sealants?

Fissure sealants are a safe and painless way of protecting your children’s teeth from tooth decay. It is a plastic coating which covers the chewing surfaces of the back adult teeth. The sealant forms a hard shield that keeps food and bacteria from getting into the tiny grooves in the teeth. Most tooth decay in children occurs in the back teeth.

Remember also to:
☺ Brush teeth and gums every morning and night.
☺ Use a pea size amount of fluoride toothpaste.
☺ Brush for 3 minutes (the length of a song).
☺ Don’t eat a lot of sugary foods and drinks especially between meals. Keep these foods as treats or for special occasions.
☺ Make sure you keep your dental appointments.

Tropical Fluoride Theraphy

Fluoride therapy is the use of fluoride for medical purposes. Fluoride supplements are recommended to prevent tooth decay in children older than 6 month in areas where the drinking water is low in fluoride. It is typically used as a liquid, pill, or paste by mouth.  Where public water supplies are fluoridated further fluoride by mouth is typically not needed. Fluoride has also been used to treat a number of bone diseases.
